Golden Boy

Upon seeing one of our dramatic oversized fiber stone busts, a client asked who's likeness actually is "Golden Boy". With a little Google searching, we were impressed to discover that a real Golden Boy actually exists and resides not too far from our Dallas store.

The statue Spirit of Communications, nicknamed Golden Boy, has been the symbol of AT&T since 1914 and stands 24 feet tall, weighs 16 tons, and is cast in bronze and covered with 40,000 pieces of gold leaf. Originally adorning the roof of the AT&T building in lower Manhattan from 1916 to 1984, Golden Boy moved to AT&T's corporate headquarters in downtown Dallas last year.

Also known as The Genius of Electricity, Golden Boy has also appeared on Bell Telephone books since the early 1930's and became a well known symbol of the Bell Companies.

We knew he looked familiar...Our Golden Boy is suitable for indoor or outdoor placement and despite his imposing good looks, he weighs only 20 pounds. While gold leaf may not be an option, there are 10 finish choices.

And that, boys and girls, concludes our History lesson of the day!
