Kristin Mullen

My style and the style of my home has grown and evolved over years of travel and exposure to homes of great style from the Far East to Europe, the East Coast to here in Dallas, Texas. I have come to appreciate the artful juxtaposition of the humble with the precious, the clean line against an intricate backdrop, and the importance of letting the gaze rest softly on the elements of a room.

For my home, this has meant using neutral backdrops of varying texture and complexity to allow my furnishings and accessories sing. I love color, and my fabric and finish choices reflect that, but I also need to feel serene and peaceful in my home, so I am always looking for a balance. I love the texture of old things, and I have found some wonderfully crackled and characterful vintage pieces at Mecox over the course of furnishing my home.

These pieces have found their way into my breakfast room and living room. The reproduction pieces have been a great favorite of mine, and there are fantastic chairs, benches, dressers, and accessories scattered throughout my home. They blend so harmoniously with my antique and vintage finds from elsewhere, that I often forget that I haven't always had them.

If I had to describe my style, I would say that it is a mix of American and Eurasian styles, with elements of nature prominently woven in to the mix. I love to blend together high end antiques and furnishings with flea market finds and family treasures, as this creates a texture and story that I find very pleasing. The architecture of my home consists of a French exterior with a modern and clean lined interpretation of classic interiors from England and France on the interior.

Each space has a story to tell, and it has been a joy to express those stories; from Southeast Asia meets Hollywood Glamour to the Cabinet of Curiosities rendered in Belgian style. Thank you to Mecox for helping me realize my vision for this design and for my home.
