Lucite, Lucite, Lucite and Acrylic!
One of my all time favorite mediums used today is a clear, synthetic, glass-like material developed in 1928 in various laboratories, and first brought to market in 1933. It has been branded a number of times with different names such as Plexiglas, Optix, and Lucite. Like glass it is clear and colorless, but does not shatter.
Designers have been using lucite for years. It has become consistently more accessible to the general public, however, there are some differences in quality and price one should know before investing in a specific piece. Vintage lucite is also very sought after and Mecox is a fabulous source for it.
Here are some spectacular vintage bar stools that have been recovered in a copper toned fabric that help soften all the new lines of this modern kitchen.
Modern or Vintage
This pair of gorgeous chunky stools (below photo) truly represent the best in what this material has to offer. They relay a classic look that inspires a classic richness that is typically found only in more traditional pieces. This versatile nature is why lucite pieces are found in a wide swath of designs and aesthetics; traditional to contemporary.
Glamorous

The below bench embraces the crisp smooth lines of plexiglass topped by a sensuously tufted gray leather.
High Design

This new lucite console is a brilliant bridge between past and present. Entry halls can be places that need functional furniture that do not take up much visual space. Old or new, it is hard to go wrong with this classic material.
