American Red Cross Designers' Show House in Palm Beach

Every season Palm Beachers look forward to the American Red Cross Designers' Show House-an opportunity for local designers to showcase a room in a stately Palm Beach home utilizing their talent and vision. This year, Mecox lended support to Palm Beach designer Katherine Shenaman with several pieces of furniture, mirrors and lighting on display all month. Congratulations to Katherine, Mecox friend, and Show House Chairman Bill Kopp, and all the designers who contributed to this esteemed and worthy cause.

Each year, more than 4,000 upscale residents tour the Designer Show House to support the vital mission of the American Red Cross. The kick-off to the month long Show House run is an exclusive opening night Preview Party where philanthropists, socialites and those with interest in design gather for a unique evening that includes a first look at this extraordinary showcase, accompanied by cocktails and hors d' oeuvres.

The prestigious Show House experience brings together the "best of the best" in the world of interior décor and gains extensive media coverage both nationally and locally. The American Red Cross Designers Show House continues to be a unique fundraiser for our Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter, a highly anticipated event for all of Palm Beach Society, and an exceptional opportunity for all to experience fine living and exceptional home design. The photos attached illustrate Mecox friend and Palm Beach designer Katherine Shenaman's room in the showhouse utilizing several goods from Mecox. Such a lovely blend of color, texture and form!

Romance on Lexington: Carrier and Company's Winter Window

Jesse Carrier, of Carrier and Company, got Mecox NYC off to a stunning start Wednesday morning at the launch of our new fund-raising collaboration with some of our favorite designers.

His Valentine's vignette, full of rich colors, texture and warmth, marks the opening of Winter Windows, a 2 month-long event in which Mecox will join forces with NYC designers and pair our merchandise with their skills to create fabulous store windows. Each designer's window will stay up for a period of 2 weeks, during which time 10% of sales on window items will go to the charity of his or her choice.

We are thrilled with Jesse's window and we know you will be too, so please pay us a visit! Carrier and Company's window will be up until the 14th, and will benefit the Food Bank for NYC. Please see the complete schedule of all participants below and check our blog to see images of future designer vignettes!

Crystal Clear

Crystal is often indicative of priceless heirlooms that get passed down from generation to generation or wine goblets and candlesticks listed on registries of brides-to-be. Lately, though, around the Mecox emporiums there are some crystal treasures that suggest chic, modern and timeless touches for the home.

Picture these enchanting crystal ball sconces casting a warm glow in the foyer...

And most unique of all, the hanging Crystal Wall Lasso is sure to be the conversation piece of the room. Such a striking juxtaposition of grand scale utilizing ethereal crystal!

And of course there are the traditional crystal ornaments like obelisks and candlesticks, but the Mecox variety is sure to be uncommon and sublime! The decision is crystal clear, be sure to add some of the invisible touches to your next design project and you are sure to enjoy the pleasing sparkle and clarity it adds!

Put History On Your Walls

Capture a piece of the past with a reproduction antiqued map preserved so that you may experience and enjoy our nation's geographical history on paper.

Antique, vintage and historical maps give us a sense of where we've been and how we got there. We pride ourselves on offering a wide range of maps that showcase the regions and states where our Mecox stores are located.

A framed, aged, reproduction map is a unique conversation piece and ideal for today's eclectic home decor. Educators, librarians and museum curators often seek out our historic maps, and history buffs and map lovers frequently find unusual treasures here too! We've found that many people enjoy gifting friends or family with ancestral maps that represent their roots and personal history.

Garrow Kedigian

We were elated to see Garrow Kedigian's stunning transformation of a Flatiron loft featured in the December Elle Decor. The apartment, while strikingly glamorous, manages to be as grounded as it is elegant. Like so many of his spaces, there is a true earthiness to his choice of textures, patterns, and richly hued rooms. Persimmon, mustard, chocolate, gold and aubergine abound, lending his particular brand of chic a unique warmth. But it is more than his natural palette that allows his rooms their rootedness. So many of his spaces reference different eras in design - grounding his sensibility even further.

Here are some links to Garrow's work - on which to feast your eyes:

Zebra Rugs

Zebra rugs have never gone out of style and add a layer of exotic luxury to a wide array of looks and style. They exemplify the look well traveled and sophisticated. They look warm and chic when added to the straight, some times even frigid lines of modern.

The Zebra rug is graphic and offers a high contrast, but somehow has a neutralizing effect. No matter the colors, patterns or style of a room, the exotic simplicity of a zebra rug embraces and enhances it all.

Please note, however, that the zebra hides we sell are from Southern African Government sponsored culls, with the purpose of maintaining the herds to a healthy population in relation to the size of the various game reserves where the animals originate. These Zebra rugs are imported legally and are not an endangered or protected species. They are inspected by US Customs and US Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Moore Design Group

Moore Design Group is one of the leading designers of multi-family living communities in North America. Established by Stephanie Moore Hager in 1991, their portfolio ranges from luxury high-rises and mid-rises to mixed-use urban villages and condos in historic downtown areas. The firm has been very successful in helping their clients develop their vision, with a ceaseless energy and passion for timeless design.

Their philosophy is that design is more than something that is created--it is something to be experienced. They have won multiple awards for their signature aesthetic spaces that evoke the pulse and verve of contemporary life. We, at Mecox Dallas, have been honored to work with Moore Design Group on various projects and look forward to working with them on many more. You can view their fabulous portfolio of projects on their website.

Warm Winter Tones

As temperatures made an abrupt turn towards winter this week, we found ourselves dreaming of warmth with every gust of cold air that burst into the shop. How, we thought, can we warm up this interior?

Of course there is always the thermostat, but we decided to find more a more creative, enduring solution to this ceaseless draft: tone. And the minute we came up with it, our eyes kept finding those warm hues - golds and coppers, yellows and browns - and resting on them as though they were embers.

Here are a few pieces we recommend for taking the chill off in the coming months:

The amber glow of a 1970's tortoiseshell table lamp.

The worn gold finish of our little stag side table.

For those in need of a modern warmth, the duffy stool pairs contemporary lines with old fashioned luster.

There are these wonderfully 19th century French swan mirrors.

Or the perfectly rusted Caroline mirror.

The luxurious Cheetah throw.

If none of these options are appropriate, you can always try a more regal approach!

Original Art from Idoline Duke

A selection of artwork on display in our Palm Beach and East Hampton locations is garnering lots of attention lately... colorful, unique and vivid original pieces from Artist Idoline Duke.

As written on her blog:

"I have been an artist all of my life. I went to the University of Vermont in the early eighties and graduated with a BA in art history and studio art. Soon afterward I studied landscape design at Inchbald School in London. After a 20 year period of designing gardens and raising two young children, my career transitioned. In 2005 I took the job of Exhibitions Director at the Helen Day Art Center in Stowe, Vermont. There I curated over 13 exhibits, designed and organized public programs, and led educational tours of the exhibits. While never leaving behind art-making entirely, in the summer of 2009 my attention turned fully to my studio. The result is a new body of work celebrating the freedom and fluidity of mixed-media collage and the freshness and vibrancy of watercolor."

Mecox is honored to host her works, and if you are in The Hamptons or Palm Beaches, please do visit to see them in person - stunning!

Some of our favorites include:

Big Flowers Triptych

Big Seahorse I

Pink Pools

Warm Pools

Also, please feel free to inquire about any customization on size or colors to create the ideal piece of original art by Idoline Duke for your home.

Cotton Baskets That Make a Difference

Mecox Gardens is proud to offer a new product for 2012: Lovely and functional hand-made cotton baskets from India.

These baskets are the beautiful product of a dedicated group of weavers who have set up a self help group for women living below the poverty line in Karnatake, India. Using handspun dyed woven stitched cotton, banana and mesthea fiber, and leather, these gorgeous baskets are a wonderfully flexible storage solution. Bring one to the market, or give them a more permanent place in your home as storage for wood, magazines, or as laundry baskets.

We were touched by the projects incentive to enable impoverished Indian women to improve their lives while sharing their gorgeous craft. Cylindrical style features large leather handles, and bold striped patterns in an array of color combinations, most notably the always classic blue and white.

Available now online or at our Southampton, East Hampton, New York City and Los Angeles locations. Of course, you can always contact your local Mecox Gardens Emporium for more information and stock levels!
